If you are having construction or clean-up done at your home, you will likely need a dumpster rental. Although unlikely, please be aware of the possibility of damage to your property caused by the weight of the dumpster and the contents placed in the dumpster.
Watch the process of a dumpster delivery below, and find out our tips for keeping your driveway protected.
Roll-Off Dumpster Direct recommends that you place 4′ x 8′ sheets of plywood over your driveway where the dumpster will be placed. These sheets can be recycled, but make sure they don’t have any nails or screws sticking out. The wood will prevent the dumpster from scratching the pavement. It will also even out the weight distribution. Additionally, some customers like to place tarps around the dumpsters in case any debris falls over the sides.
If your driveway hasn’t been paved recently, you may not have much to worry about. However, if your driveway is freshly paved, it is also important to remember that asphalt may soft and susceptible to indentation when hot. Try to find a shady spot to fit the dumpster to avoid indentation. An alternative placement may be the lawn, but keep in mind the grass will likely be ruined and the dumpster can leave heavy yard indentations. The use of plywood under the dumpster may help prevent indentations, but again the grass will be destroyed. As such, the lawn is not a recommended placement for roll off dumpsters.
It is also important to remember that once the dumpster is filled with materials, it can be quite heavy. Additionally, the truck that removes the dumpster will add a significant amount of weight on your driveway. If you are concerned that your driveway can’t support one of our larger dumpsters, you may want to consider the 10 yard dumpster. This dumpster can hold ten cubic yards of waste, or approximately 5 pickup truck loads’ worth. If this isn’t enough, we also offer 20, 30, and 40 yards.
We are not responsible for property damage during the rental period. Please take the proper precautions to protect your driveway! Don’t complicate your construction project by adding driveway damange to the list.
