At Roll-Off Dumpster Direct, we understand the important role retention ponds play in keeping our communities safe, clean, and environmentally sound, so we are proud of the role we played in helping maintain them.

What is a Retention Pond?

Most people don’t think twice about where the rain goes after it flows off the street. But the fact is, this influx of water can cause flooding. It also runs the risk of eroding river and stream banks and overwhelming your city’s sewer systems.

This is why a crucial element to the infrastructure of a growing community is retention ponds. These are used to divert water away from where it can cause harm. Excess water collects in the pond and is then released in a controlled manner, usually through a metal tube. This allows the water to release gradually, thereby decreasing the risk of flooding and erosion.

Retention Pond Maintenance

Retention ponds do require regular maintenance to ensure that they’re healthy and effective. A few important maintenance tips are to keep the drainage tube free of any debris that could clog it. The best way to do this is to remove debris surrounding the pond and in the pond before it works its way into the tube.

We are always happy to hear how our dumpsters are put to good use to help others and the community, so don’t hesitate to share your dumpster story with our team!
