If you live in Delaware County and own a car, then you are probably no stranger to replacing your motor oil and antifreeze.

While many Delaware County auto repair shops take care of these adjustments, tons of people choose to complete these updates from home. If you are one of these people, then what are you doing with your automotive product waste?

Unlike other household wastes, many automotive products, like motor oil, antifreeze, gasoline and kerosene, are deemed as hazardous waste. Improperly disposing of these wastes can be extremely harmful to the environment, animals and humans.

If you are looking to dispose of these products, do not pour them down a drain or storm sewer, as this could pollute the very water that we drink. Instead, locate a site to safely dispose of hazardous waste.

Many Delaware County auto shops accept and safely recycle automotive product waste, include oil, antifreeze, car batteries, tires and scrap metal. You may even be paid for parts like scrap metal.

Delaware County also sponsors four Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection events every year. These collections make it easy to get rid of various household wastes in a safe manner.

The next scheduled collection day is Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Rose Tree Park. Another collection is scheduled for Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Upper Chichester Township Municipal Building.
