Everyone has heard the fact that flying is safer than driving, but even if we know this is true, it often doesn’t feel that way.  According to David Ropeik, risk communication instructor at Harvard School of Public Health, driving often feels safer than flying because of our perception of personal control.  But, in fact, flying is much safer than driving.  US Today states that the odds of dying in a car accident are 1 in 98 for a lifetime whereas they are 1 in 7,178 for air and space travel.
